Biofuels and green chemistry

Biofuels and bio-based chemicals help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions because of their renewable nature. Efficient and economically viable production processes are essential elements for a successful implementation and high-quality ‘carbon footprint’.

With success PDC embarked on the development of biofuels and efficient processes for the production of biofuels and bio-chemicals and is still very active in this field.

Hydrous ethanol in gasoline
Our innovative conceptual design methodologies and expertise in analysis of physical properties of complex mixtures have helped us to develop new and more sustainable ethanol/gasoline blends. These blends differ from conventional ethanol-gasoline blends in the use of hydrous (water-containing) instead of dry ethanol for blending with gasoline. See www.heblends.com.

Biorefinery
PDC is involved in an EU project about biorefineries. The project EuroBioRef with partners from 14 countries will start in 2010 with 23 million EUR funding from EU’s Seventh Framework Programme. See also Article EuroBioRef Projects 2010

EuroBioRef aims at developing a multilevel integrated biorefinery design for sustainable biomass processing (renewables and waste material) into chemicals and fuels.
